After several years of trying to have a child, and after a medical diagnosis determined that their chances of doing so were low, my friends turned to Rabbi Pinchas Sheinberg for advice. Without hesitation the rabbi promised that if they begin to give maaser, they would have a child within a year. According to the couple's calculation, conception of their first child took place on the day when the first check was sent out.
They called the child "Asher", which has the connotation both of confirmation and of bliss. Also, with a slight transformation of the first letter, it comes out meaning wealth.
