ABOUT THIS SITE

site author

While an undergraduate at Rutgers University (B.A., 1969), Aryeh Siegel discovered an affinity for contemporary analytic philosophy, with its emphasis on logic and awareness of the use of language.

During graduate studies in the philosophy of logic and metaphysics at M.I.T. (Ph.D., 1975), however, he became disillusioned with the analytic philosopher's bias toward reductionism and materialism. With the guidance of Professor Huston Smith, he began to develop a philosophy of religious universalism and became a "seeker".

This approach was further refined while teaching the philosophy of religion and mysticism at The William Paterson College of New Jersey (1973-1978) and also studying psychotherapy. In 1978, following the advice of Rabbi Zalman Schachter, Aryeh left New York for Jerusalem and study in a rabbinical seminary. It was there that Aryeh gave written expression to his philosophical outlook in an article on the problem of evil, entitled "The Problem of Problems".

Having settled in Israel since his arrival in 1978, Aryeh has briefly taught at Ben Gurion University and assorted seminaries, but has made his livelihood in developing computer software. Living in Efrat as the father of five (and husband of one), he is currently employed as a department head and project manager at the National Insurance Institute.

In addition, Aryeh gives short Jewish philosophical seminars and workshops on themes revolving around the joy of life.
